Let's Try This Again

I'm being professional, look at me go!

Hello, everybody! You probably forgot that you agreed to be signed up for this, over a year ago when I ran a Kickstarter. Or you got my last email from Substack and saw I was leaving there. (Good riddance) Well I am doing my everything to get my ducks in a row. I set up a professional portfolio website. I re-opened my Gumroad store and added all my books on there. Prepared as many pitches as I can. Set up Kickstarter pages for upcoming books. Finally, I am getting ready to do a monthly newsletter.

If you are new to me: Hi, I am Doug Wood. I am a disabled writer from South Kansas City. I have been published with actual books at comic shops. I have ran 7 successful Kickstarter campaigns. My friends voted me so I won the 2023 Independent Comic Creator Year award, when I was very unhealth and very uncertain about my future of creating. I'm back and wanting to bring you all the best stories I possibly can!

2025 Kickstarter Madness!

I had big plans to launch a bunch of books last year. So many of them have fallen into 2025. So please get excited for some things I have started as far back as 2021! Forgive the over abundance of superhero related books. There was meant to be some other genre work breaking them up, but sometimes life pivots. haha

Into The Pale Moonlight

This one is a lonnnnnnggggg time coming. This was meant to launch around the same time The Batman movie and Moon Knight tv show came out. Now, with new artist Jack Van Thomme the book is reaching the peak weirdness I always envisioned! I hope you like murder mysteries.

Trapped in a mysterious liminal space, a superhero with a tortured past attempts to solve a murder while racing against his own deteriorating mind.

UltraMax: Death Row

It's been 5 years since I launched my first ever Kickstarter campaign. That book went on to be published and sold in comic shops! Well, we have our rights back and with the help of new artist Vinicius Carreiro, we are ready for the next chapter of the story.

Lee Franklin killed a federal agent and now finds himself in Ultra Max. It's only a matter of time before someone figures out who he is. One inmate is offering protection, if only Lee is willing to kill his ex-teammate currently on death row.

The Dying Run: Freelancer

The next book in the super powered battle royale series is nearly here! New artist Mike Morrocco is blasting out the best work of his life so far. Last time we followed a supervillain that never wanted to a part of that life. Now we follow a hero desperate to be in.

Former soldier Curt Haskins always wanted to be a superhero. After a change meeting with US Brave, he finally took the leap. Years later, its obvious that chasing the dream has come at the cost of his family. When his Former soldier Curt Haskins always wanted to be a superhero. After a change meeting with US Brave, he finally took the leap. Years later, its obvious that chasing the dream has come at the cost of his family. When his daughter attempts to reconnect, the reunion is interrupted when Curt is offered a chance team up with his hero US Brave. He throws his last chance at family only to end up in a fight to the death with fellow superheroes. Does Curt have what it takes to survive?

I'm Querying!

I'm about to query my new YA romantic comedy My Canadian Girlfriend alongside artist Ravi Teixeira. A story about a freshman in high school telling the age old American lie, "I have a girlfriend...she just lives in Canada." Well when a girl shows up to school matching his exact description the freshman is thrown off balance. It gets worse when his "girlfriend" begins telling her own lies. It will be tough keeping up with it all.

This is a very early 2000's story. Lots of instant messaging, early texting (which costs per text!) and those wonderfully embarrassing fashion decisions. Mainly it's about realizing being your real self with others leads to your happiest life.

Whelp I could go on and on, but let's cut it here. I can talk about more stuff next month! Hope you all will join me. Feel free to unsubscribe if you are not into this or whatever. No pressure!

Hello everyone! As I begin writing to you, we only have 21 hours to go on my 8th successful Kickstarter campaign. Late, but still exciting we got added as a Project Kickstarter Loves. I don't think I have ever seen a campaign get the badge this late in a campaign. Pretty cool. If you have any interest in getting a murder mystery comic, now is this time. Now that we are funded the plan is all proceeds go to The American Red Cross! In The Pale Moonlight So, what is next on my comic making...
