Doug Wood's Let Try This Again-September 3!

Let's Try This Again

I want to be a professional, can I do it?

Hello, everybody! You probably forgot that you agreed to be signed up for this, like maybe over a year ago when I ran a Kickstarter. It's been some time and I am wanting to try to send these out more regularly. I hope that is ok.

If you are new to me: Hi, I am Doug Wood. I am a disabled writer from South Kansas City. I have been published with actual books at comic shops. I have ran 8 successful Kickstarter campaigns. My friends voted for me so I won the 2023 Independent Comic Creator Year award, when I was very unhealth and very uncertain about my future of creating. I'm back and wanting to bring you all the best stories I possibly can! Now available on Global Comix

What I Have I Been Up To?

I have been trying my hardest to keep busy in the world of comics. I have been trying my hardest to teach myself more aspects of the comic making process. I am learning lettering, coloring and now inking. If you ever need any help with those parts to your own comic, feel free to reach out to me.

Portfolio

Did you know I have been writing for the Comic Book Yeti for the past year? I have been doing fun little write ups on weekly crowdfunding campaigns and monthly looks at the comic shop pre-order catalogs. Been trying my hand at written interviews as well. I know how hard it is to get comics promoted so I wanted to help out. Here are some recent examples:

Crusin' Crowdfunding

Spelunking The Solicits

Interviewing Fellhound & Michele Abounder

ULTRAMAX IS BACK!!!

5 years ago I ran my first ever crowdfunding campaign with series co-creator Michael Pickard. We were successful enough that we were able to get direct market release and those sold well. Despite the good work we did, the publisher decided against collecting the book and we were allowed to gain our rights back.

Sadly Michael was too busy to draw this new series, but his ideas are still here! He also gave his blessing to find a new artist for book 2, so welcome Vinicius Carreiro! He and I worked on a short comic for a disability/neurodivergence anthology that the editors had so many kind words about. I asked if he would be open to doing some superheroes and he told me that was his favorite thing to draw. Vinicius has been bringing a ton of energy to the story and I cannot wait for this book to crowdfund here SEPTEMBER 16.

ULTRAMAX: DEATH ROW

What Else Is Coming Up?

Updates on things I have art for.

  • Gridlocked: Memory Not Found has had some character art drawn up and some thumbnailing done for a chunk of pages. It could be a gorgeous Cyberpunk series.
  • Inheritance has a new art team. I have fully written 3 issues and talked to a major editor to come onboard as well. We are hoping for big things in the next year for our tale of inheriting a life of crime.
  • Hurt My Plenty has continually received updates from the artist. Our short story of a cowardly fainting goat and the talking shield with a masochistic kink will be available not too far off in the future.
  • The Lost London is currently with the colorist. We also have an amazing pondering the orb homage cover I cannot wait to share. World War 2 and Wizards mix well and throw in a splash of Naria type otherworldliness and we hope we have an intriguing treat for you all.
  • Post America was given to an artist who was looking for a writer to collab with. I am hoping for fun things for my dark look at the fall of America.

Whelp I could go on and on, but let's cut it here. I can talk about more stuff next month! Hope you all will join me.

Now that we are funded the plan is all proceeds go to The American Red Cross! In The Pale Moonlight So, what is next on my comic making...

Hello friends! I am back with a new month of weird and the wild here on my newsletter. I have been diligently working nonstop on comics in the past month. SPEAKING OF LAUNCHING Artist Jack Van Thomme have launched our new...
